Chaco Culture National Historic Park, New Mexico, United States

America's Southwest is known for its incredible archaeology, surpassed only by a few other places in the United States and Canada, such as the Great Smoky Mountains. Ancient Pueblo stones, adobe and mud can be discovered all over the United States, from New Mexico to California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.Chaco Culture National Historic Park, New Mexico, United States 75285475.jpg The biggest concentration of Pueblos is in what is now called the Chaco Culture National Historic Park in northwestern New Mexico. The ancient occupants built a few of the most remarkable Peublo groups in the area. The ancient ruins of Chaco Canyon have been painstakingly excavated over the centuries and are now administered by a culture that was active for more than 2000 years, from the late 19th century to the early 20th. The ruins provide a big difficulty to conservation, as eight miles of stone walls have actually been protected within the 34,000-hectare park. Funding restrictions have created significant obstacles in protecting the architectural ruins of Chaco, "stated Dr. John D. Schmitt, director of the National Historic Conservation Workplace of the National Park Service.

To this day, it and the surrounding area are a sacred location for the people of the southwest. The park was established in 1907 as the Chacao Canyon National Monument and relabelled in 1980. The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Website in 1987 and a National Historic Landmark in 1999. The park covers an area of 1. 5 million square miles (3. 2 million acres) including the Chaco Canyon, the canyon cut by the "Chaco Gallo" wave, and the Pueblo and Navajo Reserves. The name is probably derived from the Spanish word chaca, which might be a translation of the Navajo word for "canyon. " The interpretive Una Vida Trail is located at the southern end of Chaco Canyon in the Pueblo and Navajo Reserves of New Mexico. This high, short path causes a range of rock art and petroglyphs. Follow the path that leads up to the sandstone cliffs and after that down the side of a high rock face into the canyon. From this perspective, there is a terrific chance to visit the ruins of Una Vida, and there are 150 rooms and several kivas that have been embellished here. Construction on the site began in 800 AD, and over the following 250 years numerous construction tasks were carried out to house the growing neighborhood. Pueblo Bonito was integrated in stages from 850 A.D. to 1150 A.D., rising four or five floorings and most likely accommodating more than 1,200 individuals. The center of the ancient world, Pueblo Bonito, is a need to see for visitors, but the main attraction of the park are the remarkable sandstone houses.
