Riddles Of The Anasazi: Their Pottery Making

The Anasazi culture lived in what is now called the 4-Corners. The region is abundant in sedimentary minerals, including lots of exceptional clays, so most Anasazi villages most likely had a number of excellent clays within a short distance from which to choose when making pottery. They gathered a powder which they ground into a grindstone called Metate to use in their pots. Most of the geological clays had a high degree of shrinkage, so they needed to be burned and performed much better than their alluvial counterparts. As the innovation of brown products moved north to the Mogollon location, potters continued to look for clay from the floodplains, for a time overlooking the truth that it was abundant and customizing the clay for use. A variety of other clays, such as sand, sandstone, riverbed clay and sandstones, also appear as alluvial stones.

Una Vida, Casa Rinconada Great Kiva, Rinconada Small Houses Hungo Pavi 311006078.jpg The way to Casa Rinconada reveals the architectural variety of the Chacoan culture. On the south side of the canyon, Casa Rin Conada is the largest of the excavated Kiva parks. Striking masonry was established in Chaco Canyon to provide structure and stability to the big buildings. Nevertheless, Casa Rinconada does not appear to have its own big house, and the method to it is prevented by a course without big homes. It might be that the Casa Rinconada is more a relic of the Chaco culture, or perhaps a part of it, than a brand-new house. The Chacao timeline reveals that it was constructed at a time when its culture was flourishing, and that it may have survived in its present type long after the standard of a large home or kiva was introduced. The town was mainly founded between 900 and 1150 AD, and the complex includes an interplay of squares, circles and spaces, with a large number of small houses in the center of the village.
